day 11

#11 - favorite tv show

our nightly activities often revolve around our favorite shows. nothing like snuggling up on the couch in our jammies with a good meal, some wine and the remote.

criminal minds, law & order: svu and law & order: criminal intent are our favorite crime dramas.

thursday nights are exclusively 30 rock and the office, unless the dolphins are playing.
like last night.

L O S T stole a lot of our free time.

our sunday nights are devoted to frozen pizza and hbo's series.
true blood, eastbound and down, big love, bored to death, entourage, boardwalk empire, curb your enthusiasm, the sopranos, the wire, treme, sex and the city (ok, just me)
can't wait for the new one! a game of thrones.
it's based off that fantasy series i'm hooked on now. see yesterday's post.

i love i love lucy - how appropriate! - and scooby doo.

but my absolute favorite show of all time? i'm pretty sure i've told you before.

the golden girls

i have all 7 dvds and watch them in order repetitively.
make fun if you will. i'm not ashamed of this behavior.
jules and i often stayed in with a bottle of little penguin and these ladies instead of going out.
i miss that. for some reason, with the law student, it's not the same.

day 1

ah, a recent picture (ha!), introduction, and 15 interesting facts.

disclaimer: i'm not that interesting, but i'm really cute.

see? it's true. (wink)

hi. i'm kissey. a Jesus-follower, wife, daughter, oldest sister, favorite cousin, best friend, dog owner, horse lover, painter, bookworm, adoption supporter, procrastinator, MSU fan, wannabe wine connoisseur and pathetic shopper.

15 facts - i'll refrain from claiming them to be interesting.

1. i'm obsessed with horses. always have been. if i could be a horse, i would.
2. i really do enjoy sports, even if i don't understand all the nuances. i'm a bulldog at heart, and a dolphins and dodgers fan by marriage, but they've managed to win my allegiance independent of the law student. as far as basketball, i'm just a fan in general. i like specific players and love an nba finals game 7.
3. i'm a really bad shopper. my mother and sisters make up for my lacking. it gives me a headache and decision anxiety, and pants. never. fit. plus, i have expensive taste (genetic), so it's generally better if i don't shop at all. the law student thanks me for this.
4. i've never broken a bone. true story.
5. i am slowly but surely becoming my mother. please see posts under that label.

6. my favorite dessert is ice cream. it shows.
7. i love to cook. this talent i did inherit. mom likes to make fun of me because, as she claims, i didn't know how to crack an egg when i left for college. but now i can make recipes sparkle and shine. thank you, law student, for discovering this talent and allowing it to blossom, and for alleviating mom's fear of a starving son-in-law.
8. i'm allergic to penicillin. funny story - had my wisdom teeth out and got the narcotic and penicillin for the recovery. for some reason my parents found it prudent not to suspend my driving privileges, which resulted in the purchase of a furry zebra print steering wheel cover. thanks, parents. but i digress. i was teaching vbs at church and had an allergic reaction to the penicillin (mom's allergic too), so the other teacher gave me benadryl. on top of my lortab. which culminated in me being drunk at church and driving home (again).
9. i love to make to-do lists and then cross off the items.
10. my sleepy-time habits must be observed: ceiling fan, cool temperature, white noise, my own pillow and baby blanket (some would call it a rag, i would call it awesome), closed door, dark, and otherwise quiet. no tv, no radio, no random party at the neighbors. sorry. wish i could fall asleep as soon as i lay down (becca), but i can't.

11. i play counselor to my friends. nobody's died or been incarcerated yet, so i think i've been pretty successful.
12. someone once told me i'm a type-a personality. i can't find anyone who refutes this allegation.
13. i'm really really bad at remembering to take pictures in general. the picture above is from my sister's camera this summer. i feel guilty, but not guilty enough to do anything about it. like get my camera fixed.
14. i can't stand to have my fingernails painted. it makes my fingers feel heavy.
15. i have the most expensive mouth i know of. expander, brackets with the expander, set of braces, 6 pairs of retainers, bleaching, 2 root canals, 2 sets of crowns, wisdom teeth removal, gingivectomy, tmj appliance...thanks, dental insurance.

so there you go. day 2 cometh.

monday night heartbreak

dear dolphins,

your special teams - woof.

you were the first to score. the golden mullet didn't score a touchdown. you held the patriots to 2 field goals in the first half. you walked back onto the field leading 7-6.

and then you let them score in the first 14 seconds of the second half. your quarterback threw 2 interceptions that resulted in 14 points, and a pick-6 to round out the game. not to mention i had to hear the name benjarvus green-ellis over and over again, which is not only a mouthful but also a player of my alma mater's rival. salt in the wound.

but nothing compares to the special teams. wow. y'all really showed out. after last game's blocked punt, surely you practiced this. you must have, because you are a professional football team and you get paid to do a job. how many blocked punts did you have last night? three? i lost count. i'm pretty sure your total lack of ability to simply execute a play that for any regular team is a given directly contributed to that bigger number on the scoreboard. your number one fan, my husband, stopped watching. he even stopped screaming. he probably won't even whistle all day today. if you don't know, it's a bad sign. in fact, my home life is directly related to your win-loss record.

i married into this loyalty, but i now support you as a true fan (even though jason taylor left). so, in the name of happy households and husbands everywhere,

get. it. together.

sincerely,

kissey, dolphin fan

untitled monday post

first and foremost, i would like to publicly thank my new followers, katie and jessica. new followers always make me happy. seriously, if you're secretly stalking me, be brave and publicly follow me. i love to know who finds me mildly entertaining. come out, come out, whoever you are!
me and jess, some years ago--reuniting soon!

so, goings-on with the langs: msu football, miami dolphin football, mother-in-law's birthday (and getting to see sweet niece olivia-bonus!), new small group, the swearing off of hard liquor (or at least whiskey), baby showers, visiting old friends and of course, waiting out the bar exam results. we get them thursday! thank you for all of your prayers and thoughts. i'm more than certain the law graduate passed, but it's nice to know for sure. i'll keep you updated.

i think back about him studying for the LSAT. he was so disciplined! then, he graduated and we got married the next weekend. i quit my job, because who wants to work the week of their wedding, and then after their honeymoon? and then, we just had to get up here to small town, so we packed up our horse trailer (yes, horse trailer) and moved completely in 24 hours. that was when we discovered this town does not sell cold beer. rebels, and hot beer? oy vey.

it was exciting and a bit scary here at first, trying to find jobs and our little niche. if you were my friend then, you heard all about it. but life puttered along here and picked up speed. we found jobs, friends and a church, and all the little secret things i love about this town. and life just sort of happened. the last three years have been great and i think we've both learned a lot--wow, just thinking about it is kind of cool! and now, at the beginning of our 4th football season here (can you tell i'm a happily converted sports fan?), we are waiting. waiting for bar exam results. waiting for a job offer. hell, even an interview would be nice. waiting for...what? i hesitate to say waiting for our life to start, because it already has. three years of school, growing, new friends, life routines, work. all these things happened, and were good, and are valuable and memorable. so while we wait, and i feel like the big door of life is almost open and i too often get caught up in the whirlwind of our future, i struggle to remember that today counts, too. we are not in limbo, we are in motion, and we have two hands and two feet to do the work of the gospel. "waiting for a job offer and subsequent new life direction" is no excuse to be idle. i'm trying to think of this as a time to sow, and to be still, and to learn and prepare.

i've mentioned we are reading the bible all the way through, haven't i? i love it. we get up early, which i hate, and pray together, and then read the chapters for the day, and then pray again. and as much as it physically pains me to get up earlier than i would like, i really crave that time with the law graduate to pray together and be in the Word together. granted, we are a week behind because of football weekends and a certain sleepyhead, but i'm glad we are doing this together. it's hard to stay mad at someone when you have to hold hands and pray with them every day.

hope this monday finds you all well. i'll be back later!

thursday night

1. if any of you out there know what an EIN (or FEIN) is, please never never never have more than one business per EIN. it will save you much ill will from your accountant. i don't care what the tax advantages are.

2. food: cwc&s, leftover mac & cheese, an apple, a handful of raisins and a handful of cashews before dinner, roasted salmon with shallots and canned tomatoes over spinach, roasted fingerling potatoes with boursin cheese (omg i love that stuff), a glass of red wine, and one measely, delicious milk dud. after last night's twix encounter, i have emerged victorious tonight. exercise: pilates and 35 minutes of cardio.

3. white jeans and a dan marino jersey. i love 30 rock.

4. i'm sad j. d. salinger died. i have never read the catcher in the rye. i have read franny & zooey, raise high the roof beam, carpenters, and seymour: an introduction. i loved every word of them.

5. my google reader was completely flummoxed today. not one blog update appeared. at all. so tonight, i went around re-following folks. just now all has returned to normal. i still have not managed to un-follow myself.

off to make the bed and get in it.

Sunday, November 1, 2009

um, scratch that

1. new eating-and-exercise plan= FAIL. please disregard post below. i know i did. thanks.

2. i need a personal shopper. (anna, i know you have good intentions but you don't always stay focused.) i hate shopping. i invariably get a headache about 2 hours in and become completely disinterested and unmanageable, incapable of any decision-making and usually adverse to even trying on clothes. at this point, i either end up not buying something i love or coming home with crap that i just have to return, like the polo turtleneck, yoga pants and kate spade heels from t. j. maxx sitting in my bedroom. or, like today, i see something i love, like this j. crew donegal shawl collar sweater in rosewood heather, only to discover it is unavailable. it's a lose-lose situation.

3. i'm sick. it's the law student's fault, and i hate him. sore throat, headache, fever, blah. i'm on the couch for the 3rd afternoon in a row. but it's not all bad--watching golden girls, the rox is snuggled up with me and snoring, pizza is in the oven and the dolphins are set to play today.

4. happy hallow-WIN! dawgs vs. kats, 31-24. thank you, anthony dixon. it's amazing how a bulldog win can temporarily alleviate flu symptoms.

5. here is #5, courtney!

6. can you believe it is november already? the temperatures have dropped to football weather, thanksgiving is in 3 weeks, and my christmas lists have begun. yay! also, november is national adoption awareness month! i am a big advocate of adoption, even though i have no personal experience in the area. but check out these sites: amazima, emily's blog, katie's blog, the oatsvall blog, and joining the journey.

7. i cannot get enough of baby names. i really do have a huge list of names and meanings for boys and girls. disclaimer: the law student and i are in no way ready to have kids. (sorry, sisters) i mean, not ready right now. we are getting more comfortable talking about the idea of kids and having kids in a year or so, but we really want to wait until after the law student passes the law bar and finds a law job. so many of my friends have babies and our new niece is precious (the law student and i have ceased to exist), so i think it's a bit natural i have this twinge of baby fever. it's really annoying.

pizza is almost done. hopefully this flu is too. happy november!
